Congress Approval in DC has Big Impact in Medical Marijuana Law

Congress ApprovalIt’s official. The District of Columbia’s marijuana law has been approved by the U.S. Congress. The groundbreaking “game changer” has started the United States on a path towards the more complete integration of medical marijuana into the field of medicine. For the first time Congress has given their approval for legal medical marijuana to any state or local law. Under the Equal Protection clause of the U.S. Constitution this allows medical marijuana patients and centers that have been operating in compliance with their state’s laws will not be subject to the federal persecution they have been previously under. With this new development marijuana can no longer be subject to the Controlled Substance Act. Previously, marijuana was classified in the Controlled Substance Act as a Schedule I controlled substance. Schedule I controlled substances have been deemed a “high potential for abuse” and has no current use in the medical field. Get ready to see some change in the way medicinal marijuana is regulated.
